Profand promotes fishing fleet renewal with new vessel construction in Spain

Mar 31, 2025

Profand, Pesantar's main shareholder, has announced together with Newsan the construction of a new state-of-the-art freezer trawler, designed for the sustainable capture of Patagonian toothfish and other species in Argentine and adjacent waters.

The project will be executed by the Spanish shipyard Nodosa, recognized for its innovations in naval engineering, and represents a strategic advance for the modernization of the fishing fleet. With a length of 85 meters and a beam of 14 meters, the vessel will replace the B/P Echizen Maru, ensuring greater operational efficiency and a reduction in environmental impact.

The new vessel, whose construction will begin in the first quarter of 2025 with delivery scheduled for April 2027, will incorporate advanced technology such as energy recovery systems and optimized machinery, reducing fuel consumption and carbon footprint. It will also have a fishmeal plant and an innovative freezing system, allowing for better fishery management and product diversification.

With this ambitious project, Profand reinforces its commitment to sustainability, efficiency and innovation, promoting the development of the fishing industry in Argentina and ensuring responsible exploitation of marine resources.
